ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION POLICY

The negative consequences of illegal immigration is felt by many of Wisconsin's residents.  By draining public funds intended to provide services for residents, creating unfair competition for many skilled trades and suppressing wages and opportunities for entry level jobs, illegal immigration causes harm to more Wisconsin residents than it does good.

On any given day,  more than 4,000 illegal aliens walk, run, and steal their way across the U.S.-Mexico border, many of them destined for Wisconsin knowing that when they get here, they will be welcomed with easy access to taxpayer assisted public services.

In 1996 the Immigration & Naturalization Service estimated Wisconsin's illegal population at 8,000 residents.  The 2007 estimate is 90,000-125,000, that's Wisconsin's share of 13,000,000 illegal aliens across the entire United States.  This 90,000-125,000 figure does not include the children of illegal aliens born here in Wisconsin. Census statistics show that 24.5% of Wisconsin's population growth is attributed to illegal immigration and the children born to illegal aliens.

COST TO THE TAXPAYER

Numerous studies have documented the fact that illegal aliens are a significant fiscal burden on state, county and local governments.  Educating their children in public schools, providing medical services in emergency rooms, and incarceration of criminal aliens cost our nation an additional $36 billion in 2002, expected to rise to $61 billion in 2010. Services to illegal aliens in Wisconsin cost residents $249 million in 2002, with the cost going up to $425 million per year by 2010.

COST ON PUBLIC HEALTH

The impact of illegal immigration on our public health is often overlooked.  Because illegal immigrants, unlike those who are legally admitted, undergo no medical screening, a resurgence of contagious diseases is under way. Contagious diseases that our county wiped out years ago, such as, polio, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, and even rare Third World diseases such as leprosy are now being reported.  The societal costs associated with illegal immigration goes far beyond what most people ever think about.

COST ON JOBS AND WAGES

Illegal immigration holds down the pay of Wisconsin workers and rewards the illegals and the businesses who hire them.  It breeds anger and resentment among hard working residents how illegal aliens can shut Wisconsinites out of  jobs.  Studies say that because of the increased labor supply of illegal workers, the average wage earner, earns $1,700.00 less each year, and this disparity falls most often on African Americans and Hispanic residents.

Keeping jobs available for Wisconsin residents, controlling the costs of social services, and protecting the common good of Wisconsin residents should be the goal of any and every state elected official.
